Just got a few of these new boxes measured 35cm x 46 cm x 15.5cm to build aeroponic.
The size of the interior can be well supplied by just one ultrasonic fogger fixed at the center of the bottom without supporting structure for floating. The fogger is submerged in 7 cm of water for maxima efficiency. This also holds good amount of water to have a stable temperature. The fogger does well filling the space above with fog.

Michael has brought all the parts to assemble a reprap. We just have to follow the assembly instructions for the Mendel model with the parts bought from BotMill. Alex has taken the lead on assembling with and has gotten to the point of assembling the outer frame with the help of Min Lin. Anyone else interested by 3d printing is invited to join in. We will work on it both this evening (Monday November 7th) and Wednesday evening (November 9th). Instructionals videos are available online…

Lionello needed a twisted wire as an audio cable so he did what any good hacker would do: he made one! He used an old busted fan to turn the two wires into each other and voila: instead twisted wires!

Bhut Jolokia peppers on Taobao and start them today. The pepper is rated at 1,000,000 SHU. It will be fun to grow them and probably more fun to see someone eat them! 😉

XinCheJian crashed this party, we presented throughout the day and hijacked a presentation room, while Lio took the big stage with the D programming language and
Oil waste management workshop last Saturday where a group of enthusiasts worked on designing solutions to prevent used cooking oil from being reused. Interesting ideas around intelligent oil recycling bins and cheap one time paper tester..
Robo Racing last Sunday left Lio still holding onto the championship trophy, next month – he had better be careful as we have some new robots that came together or got improved on after the race.
=== Wednesday ===
This week at XinCheJian we’ve got the following happening:
Micheal is running the safety workshop, this quick 20 minute workshop on the Bandsaw and Drill Press with common safety precautions and outlines, be warned everyone must do these workshops to use these tools. Did you know the original design for a bandsaw was cutting meat.. yummy.
Lock-picking study starts tonight, the first Lock will come today and the research will begin, Micheal’s Safety workshop will be useful as we’ll have to slice a lock open.
Raven by popular demand is back tonight for those that missed his processing presentation, he’s generating a lot of buzz.. an earlier message on weibo read “can processing do motion tracking” he replied “yep, it can even detect color changes and blobs”.. – I cant wait to tie Processing, Servos, Arduino, and a laser assisted Nerf gun together.
The not-Harry-potter Severin Schols will be dropping in tonight before his sad departure on Friday from China. 🙁 another true hacker needs to be replaced.. so here is the job description: Looking for male/female – 12-13yr old – 4ft 5″ – Blond haired – Blue Eyes (bleached hair and coloured contacts fine), must be able to do German accent, must like Cats and Barbie dolls ready for immediate replacement.
Hopefully finishing off the side tables.
A Good time to finish off or make your racing robot, parts are available in XinCheJian.
Mitch Altman kits are still available, get the MintyBoost to charge your phone off of 2xAA batteries for when you’ve forgotten to charge your phone the evening before.

=== Holidays at XinCheJian ===
For non-members/members we’ll keep the Wednesday meetup during the holiday open, For members the space will be open if you have a Key, nothing is planned over that week but some of us will be there. If you don’t hold a key one of the best ways is to send an email to [email protected] the day before if you are planning on going down to see if anyone will be there, no reply means no.

XinCheJian Hackerspace, the first Hackerspace in China, is proud to announce that it has been accepted in the Seeedstudio Toy Hacking contest. We will receive two Grove kits for the purpose of hacking two toys from the OpenHardware company in Shenzhen. They are given us the opportunity of winning a 200$USD grand prize gift certificate and a 100$USD first prize certificate. Our entries to the contest will consist of two projects that will use as much as possible the various electronic components included in the kit. The first project is the transformation of a beckoning cat (招財貓) that is often seen in store as a good-luck charm to attract business. We want to turn it into a fun and interactive experience. The project, led by Severin Schols (an experienced German hacker) will be done in collaboration with XinCheJian hackers out of the Shanghai Hackerspace. Our beckoning cyber-cat will have additional surprising abilities that will make them even cuter than usual. Such an iconic device transformed into something more will make a great impression on people seeing it. The second project will consist in adding extra fun functions on one roboracing robot. We have many teams that have a robot or have started building their own through our weekend robo-racing workshops. The Grove kit will be made available to anyone that wants to add extra functions. We’ve noticed in our first two competitions (June and July) that fun but not necessarily useful features gave great pleasure to the audience: honking, flashing lights and more interactivity when handling the robot car. The Grove toy kits will make an awesome addition to these robot cars and we expect quite a few participants to be interested in using it. Thanks to Hao Zhang ([email protected]) we’ve already received the two kits with some additional parts for our specific projects (such as a mobile platform and servos). The parts are available to anyone who wants to work on a winning entry for XinCheJian! XinCheJian has until September 15th to send in our designs with step-by-step instructions for the two projects. ]]>
